Inclining Experiment is a Naval Architecture utility App to be used in connection with an inclining experiment for a ship.

The App follows the IMO Guidelines for conducting inclining experiments with 2 pendulums,
having options for different weight shifting schemes.

The App is structured in five major tabs for:
1) Database management.

2) Preparation of experiment, with ship data input, scheme selection and calculation og shifting weights requirements.

3) Setting up the experiment, with environment input, pendulums and actual weights.

4) The actual inclining experiment, with actual shifts input, and possibility to monitor graph with calculation of GM and standard deviations of the measurements, during the experiment after shift number three. During the experiment just swipe between shifts.

5) Draught measurements.

When displacement, center of gravity and KMT are calculated from draughts obtained during draught survey the App has the ability to calculate final lightship weight using tabs for subtracted weights and added weights.

The App has built in check lists for light ship survey and inclining experiment, to assure that the experiment follows the IMO guidelines.

Finally, all data for a project can be e-mailed as a “.csv" file for further use at the office.

Several Naval Architect has developed spreadsheets to be used during the inclining experiment. Using this App during experiments is more handy. You can have your phone in your pocket (in case of rain etc.), and enter data when you are free during the weight shifts. You can easily follow the quality of the experiment via the graph view. If you have data coverage (most areas nowadays), you can send “.csv" file maybe just to yourself as backup, or you could have home office backup during the experiment, to monitor, check and guide you if results are tricky.

The App is portrait only and designed to be used on iPhones primarily, due to the handiness during the experiment. The App can be used on iPad also if desired.

Coordinate system: Origin (0.0,0.0,0.0) is AP,CL,BL. X is positive fwd. Y is positive to port side. Z is positive up. Following the right hand rule, rotations to starboard are positive, thus deflections are positive to starboard and negative to port side. Deflections are always entered as absolute from zero position. Weight movements are always entered as a positive value. Units to be used during entry is always shown at the entry fields.

Note! The calculation of displacement, center of gravity and KMT is not part of this App. These data must be calculated by hand using hydrostatic data or using some hydrostatic/stability software with ship hydrostatic model.

The App is thoroughly tested on several real projects and believed to be correct, but it is always the responsibility of the user to verify results of the experiment, and to ensure conformity with national and international regulations.
